Game: Assteroidz

Assteroidz - Dave Diamond Edition is an Asteroids-styled game, in which you shoot asteroids that come in your direction. The difference in this case is that instead of a spaceship you're flying David Lee Roth. And you're not firing a space cannon - you're gonna shoot through Dave (hence the "ass" in the name of the game, capisce?).
Click the image (above) to play.
Other than that, you might be willing to watch Dave performing Panama (from the album "1984").

Play sitar and didgeridoo online

This is pretty cool. The "Indian Shankar Drum Ganesh Machine" has a lot of sound effects: each button triggers a different sound (sitar, didgeridoo, voices, drums etc).
To give it a try click the image above (opens in new window).
And since we are talking about those instruments, take a look at these two videos: the first one shows Ravi and Anoushka Shankar playing sitars, and the second one brings Peter 'Chainsaw' Atjpurrki in a didgeridoo solo.
Both exotic, both amazing.

My generation
Do you remember The Who's My Generation, right?
So try now this version by The Zimmers (a British band that have the oldest members in the world).
It's pretty good (but it's kinda hard to hear them singing that "I hope I die before I get old" part.)

A wine with "Peace of Mind"

If you are looking for a reason to start drinking wine, there you go: Iron Maiden's official wine!
The "Eddie's Evil Brew" is a Chilean Merlot only available at the band's online store: LINK.
Obviously they didn't mentioned anything else but the fact that this is a Merlot, but so what? Who cares about such details?

From their store: "You can have Piece of Mind that this fine Chilean Merlot tastes great on it's own or with a very very rare steak! Comes in a wooden presentation box 'IRON MAIDEN Eddie's Evil Brew' printed on top sliding lid which would make a great gift."
And to celebrate: one of their best songs ever, Wasted Years. Loud, please...

Presidential music: Obama and Lula

With all the buzz about the American presidential election I was informed (like everybody else in the world) that Barack Obama's favorite song is "Ready or Not" (Fugees - from the album "The Score"). Then I thought "and what would be the favorite song of our president?"
Well, after some research I found it. And you can hear it after the jump.
According to some news sources the favorite song of our Magnificent Squid (Lula means 'squid' in Portuguese) is... CUITELINHO. That's an old folk song.
By the way Cuitelinho means "hummingbird" in the Brazilian (deep) countryside.
Here you could watch singer Renato Teixeira playing this tune:
And here the American Presidential choice, Fugees:

Man jailed for Spiderpig insults
A man has been jailed for breaching the peace by singing Spiderpig from The Simpsons Movie at police officers.David Mullen was sentenced to three months for the incident and calling an officer "ginger" in a police van.
Mullen, 22, from Blairgowrie, claimed he was singing the ditty, performed by Homer in the cartoon, because it was the ringtone on his mobile phone.
He was given a further eight months in prison for assaulting a police officer and breaching a curfew while on bail.
Homer sings Spiderpig to the theme of Spiderman while walking a pig across the ceiling in The Simpsons Movie.
Mullen sang the song to officers on 25 July while sitting in the back of a police van after being involved in a fight in Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said: "He started the song and that was the origin of the joke, but things went further. He felt he had not done anything to be apprehended for."

Nevermind: now and then

The Nirvana "Nevermind" cover has always been one of my favorites. Maybe it's the most creative cover of all (pretty cool, huh?)
This is Nirvana's second album, released in 1991 (the first album, Bleach, was released two years earlier). Wow... that's the kind of thing that make people feel old: 17 years has passed since 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' started playing in the radios.
But back to the point: Spencer Elden, the (then) baby has 17 years now, and he recreated that historic cover.
See how it looks after the jump(click to enlarge).

AC/DC music video using Excel

It's possible to run audio-visual content using Excel, and the first music video using '.xls' files is a AC/DC one, featuring "Rock'N'Roll Train".
Below you have a short demonstration of it, and if you want to see it working in Excel, download the file HERE (the file name is ACDC.xls).
By the way, the music is great.

Kiss everywhere

(Almost) everybody likes Kiss, and if you don't at least you have heard about them.
The facial paints of the band members have inspired photoshop contests (LINK 1, LINK 2) and paintings done under the same theme (from the artist Ron English, HERE.
